Dear Isabelle Kerr.

I’ve red your article on the topic of slang. The title of your article, Twerking, selfie and unlike? young people don’t speak like that – I should know, is relate able, Reason for that is because I’m 15 and I’ve been brought up in the generation of “slang”. I tend to agree and disagree with most of you points that were made within the article, such as how I’m mostly confused as you are about the Oxford Dictionary online considering to add these new substandard words like, vom, selfie, srsly etc. In my opinion I think words like that are acceptable for the online social media, as of I do use slang on medias myself, I do this at times like when I’m having a conversation I’ll tend to say things like K, plez, soz etc, but if I was to be writing an important letter then i’ll format it properly and that’s the difference, I know when to use slang and when not to but for younger people still learning then it can reflect back on them when they’re growing up. communicating through theses medias can be a hassle to type properly, and it’s understandable why people tend to abbreviate words in that sense but I think that it’s came the conclusion that people are now starting to misuse the words and taking them for grant edge. Who knows from now the next younger generation could possibly change the English language as we know it. They might start inventing or abbreviating more words to the extent where the future education will be corrupt, as teachers may teach slang words to younger pupils and GCSE assessments could be based on slang words, which like Mrs Kerr said it doesn’t reflect well on young people. Moving on to the older section of our community celebrities. celebrities also contribute to promoting slang out to the world, as celebrities are world famous they have a wide range audience where they have fans that idolize them and copy their acts such as slang. Lil Wayne is known for using sizzurp, Drake is known for YOLO and Miley Cyrus is known for twerk, all words they’ve created or just an abbreviated. At the last section of your article I agree with that all these slang words are a trend waiting to pass off, like how people use to use the word cool and now it’s sick, or the word boring had elevated to people saying this is dead, they’re all trends.
